Skio and Recharge setup instructions
Last updated: September 8, 2026
Abra works with Skio and Recharge out of the box.
There is nothing to connect. No API keys, no activation step, no separate integration to configure. Both platforms write their subscription data to Shopify, and Abra reads it from there. Shopify is the intermediary.
If your subscriptions are live, Abra can already see them.
Building a Subscription-Specific Promotion
Every Abra discount has a purchase type control. Set it to one-time, subscription, or both.
The qualifying side and the reward side can use different purchase types, so a one-time purchase can unlock a subscription reward, or a subscription can unlock a one-time gift.
Almost every discount you can build in Abra can be made subscription-specific:
Percentage and fixed-amount discounts
Volume and tiered discounts
Multi-value discounts
Gift with purchase
Free shipping
BOGO offers
The one exception is fixed-price subscription bundles. Shopify's bundles are not compatible with purchase options, which includes subscriptions, so a bundle cannot be sold on a subscription at a set price. See Shopify's bundle eligibility and considerations and purchase options.
What You Can Build
Boost your subscribe and save offer for a promotional window. Layer an Abra discount on top of the existing subscription price instead of editing the plan and changing it back later.
Split the offer by purchase type. Run 20% off one-time purchases and 30% off subscriptions in the same promotion.
Add a free gift to subscription orders. Gift with purchase, targeted to subscription buyers only.
Discount the first order, not every order. Set how many billing cycles the discount applies to.
Free shipping on renewals. Limit it to the first payment, a set number of payments, or all future payments.
Offer market-specific subscription pricing. Different subscription discounts by country, in one promotion.
Reach existing subscribers privately. Distribute a subscription offer through a Private Link, without exposing it storewide.
Codes and Automatic Discounts Behave Differently on Renewals
Any Abra discount can run as a discount code or as a Shopify automatic discount. Skio uses Shopify's native checkout, and supports both codes and automatic discounts.
Recharge, on the Shopify Checkout Integration, treats them differently. A discount code configured for subscription purchases imports into Recharge and applies on recurring orders. In order to carry the subscription discount through to multiple renewal periods, you cannot use an Automatic Discount. You must use an Abra Manual Code. With Abra, this Manual Code auto-applies based on different qualifiers. We generally recommend brands use the Manual code as Shopify’s Automatic codes overrides most discounts.
How Long a Subscription Discount Lasts
Set the duration in the discount's recurring payments settings. First payment only, a specific number of payments, or every future payment.
When the discount is applied, Shopify saves a snapshot of it to the subscription contract.
This has one consequence: expiring or deactivating the discount does not remove it from subscriptions that already have it. Those contracts keep the discount until its cycle limit runs out. Set the cycle limit up front rather than relying on an end date.
Existing subscribers also keep their current pricing when you launch a new offer. A new promotion does not retroactively reprice active contracts.
Known Limitations
Fixed-price subscription bundles are not supported. Shopify bundles are incompatible with purchase options. (see above)
Shopify automatic discounts do not carry to Recharge renewals. (see above)
A Shopify automatic discount created outside Abra can override Abra's logic. This is true of all Abra promotions, not only subscription ones.
